Menthol crystals exists in white long needle-like crystals. It has characteristic odor of natural menthol obtained from menthol avensis oil. with very good cooling effective. Slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol, ethyl ester, acetone and chloroform. Its melting point is 38-44 C degree. So its storage point should below 38-44 C degree.

Application

- As an antipruritic to reduce itching.
- As a topical analgesic, it is used to relieve minor aches and pains, such as muscle cramps, sprains, headaches and similar conditions.
- As a smoking tobacco additive in some cigarette brands, for flavor, and to reduce throat and sinus irritation sometimes caused by smoking.
- As a pesticide against tracheal mites of honey bees.
- In perfumery, menthol is used to prepare menthyl esters to emphasize floral notes (especially rose).
- As an antispasmodic and smooth muscle relaxant in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
